In a task I should obtain the explicit description for ColA of a given matrix A. The problem that I have is, that I don't know what explicit means in this context. Do I have to write down the columns of matrix A as equations or is the explicit description simply the span of all columns of A. What would be an implicit description? Thanks in advance.

  • $\begingroup$ I should think that showing a basis of ColA would do. Writing a general vector in ColA as a linear combination of basis vectors would also do. An implicit description might be to simply say that ColA is the vector space spanned by linear combinations of column vectors. $\endgroup$ – Paul May 17 at 8:05
