I know that this question was already asked. But I am looking for a book on partial differential equations that covers the basics . And specifically explains reduction to canonical forms with examples.

  • $\begingroup$ The book in the link was completely ordinary differential equation . I want partial differential equations $\endgroup$ Feb 11, 2019 at 18:01
  • $\begingroup$ you obviously didn’t read the chapter labeled partial differential equations. $\endgroup$ Feb 11, 2019 at 19:35

Take a look at Partial Differential Equations in Mechanics 1 by A. P. S. Selvadurai.

This book

  • covers the basics in chapters 2 and 3.
  • explains reduction to canonical forms in Section 4.2.
  • gives examples in Section 4.3.
