Felix's approach is 45 degrees rorated relative to my approach. And I'm still not sure which one is easier to tweak. The shaddow of Felix's approach on x-y plane is exactly an square, without using parametric plot. But I had to use u,v parameters to make it xy-square.

Depending on the circle and rectangles, this maximum would be 2, 4, 6 or 8 (these are values that i'm sure), But exact conditions (on a, b and r) for every of these values is the problem.

That depends on the rectangle, for some values of a, b and r, its possible to intersect in 8 points, and the apearantly the condition for a, b and r, is some complex.

You may not belive that this problem came out from working on a software design (a model for internet sever provider and bandwith management). I am now a programmer and I was many years far from pure mathematics, and forgot most of these iniqality techniques (I remind how much important and applicable was cauchy-schwarz)
