I am afraid I do not get this. You divide your cake in four pieces, fine. You give one pieces to each person, then you divide the remaining piece into four. Now, if you give one of these sub-pieces to each person, you remain with one sub-piece. Am I missing something?

Six in an even number; if you double it, you get twelve. Both are divisible by three.
