A question on a compact space Too tired right now to finish this right now, but here is what I had: If a discrete subset is closed, then it has a finite subcover (the singletons of a discrete set form a basis of it, so the singletons are the finite cover). Therefore, every discrete subset of the space is finite... |

How to deal with non random data in statistical analysis? Without having looked at your data, my hunch is there is a strong likelihood there is a random component. And yes, there are a number of model selection techniques you can use to parameterize a sufficient time-series model, ARMA may be appropriate for what you're doing. |

Question about joint probability density function I agree, using this in a bivariate transformation would be appropriate. |

Eigenvalue problem: Prove that all of the eigenvalues of $A$ are 1. RE: (1), I went back and read the comments, and that's a good question - what are some of the other ways to arrive at such a result? RE: (2), matrix elements can be either 0 or 1. If a diagonal element is zero, then the matrix is singular and the determinant is therefore also zero, thus all eigenvalues cannot be positive. RE: (3), that paper definitely spells out a more direct route, thanks for sharing it. |
