When does $V = \ker(f) \oplus \operatorname{im}(f)$? @joriki: Equality. I haven't heard the term internal direct sum before, but based on the definition on Wikipedia, I think that's what I'm referring to, since $\ker(f)$ and $\operatorname{im}(f)$ are subspaces of $V$. |
