@AndreySokolov I use dagger for Hermitian conjugation. My point is: for numbers like $a=\pm 1$ (whose square is one), one has that $a^\dagger = a$, while for $b=\pm \imath$ (whose square is minus one), it follows that $b^\dagger=-b$. Is it true for other (non-trivial) representations?
