Thank you. What I don't quite understand about this is the following. Since we are dealing with a HMM, we know observation $Y_t$ is dependent on $X_t$. So if we know the value for a particular $X_t$, wouldn't $Y_t$ then be independent of Z? So isn't it safe to say $$p(Y_t|X_t, z) = p(Y_t|X_t)$$ if we know X? Thanks for your kind help :)
