This function is extremely useful in animation where you need cylical motion at say, 60 frames a second, but don't want the overhead of the circle functions and don't care about the bumpiness.

I call this the 'fold' function. If you are applying it in programming, the behavior across 0 for mod can vary, so it might need to be tweaked.
