@joriki: In the restatement there is exactly one 24 hour period (no previous or next day). It is precisely the Z-fold overlap we are interested in (what is the chance 4 events are occuring at the same time).

@J.D.: No, I think because it's XOR and not addition that it is not NP-Complete. I'm sure there is a solution that takes advantage of the independence of the bit positions in XOR, I just can't see it.
