A counterexample is not the only way to disprove such a atatement. For example, it's easier to prove that not all real numbers are algebraic than to prove that any particular real number is not algebraic.

A common(?) interview question is "Why are manhole covers round?" A valid answer is "Because manholes are round." (That doesn't answer this question, though.)
