I explain my situation.

I have 30 sheep producing milk and 10 different customers that assess drinking it. To determine which of sheep milk is the best I would like to figure out how to establish a ranking.

Each customer has voted for the milk of a sheep.

For example 6 customers for a sheep have voted "5" (1 to 5). 2 customers have voted for another sheep "5". 1 client to another sheep voted "5". The last customer has always voted "5" for yet another sheep.

Since all customers have the same moral influence on me I would like to understand how to give to the milk a value from 0 to 10 weighing more number of people.

The first sheep that received 6 votes may not be worth 10 (the maximum) as the other just because everyone voted the maximum (5).

It seems more logical that the sheep 1 is worth 10 (the max) and the second 2 (because only two people who voted "5"), the third sheep equal to 1 (as well as the fourth) and the other sheep that have had zero votes have 0 as a value.

I hope I was clear.

Can you explain a bit more precisely the voting process? Has every customer tasted each sheep? Do customers assign a value (1 to 5) for each sheep, or any number they want? –  Olivier Jan 6 '14 at 19:46
Ok. The maximum number is 5. They can vote from 1 to 5 for each milk tasted. But they are not obliged to vote all the sheep. They can also vote only one (as the case I have described). Now the question is clearer? –  ginolin Jan 7 '14 at 9:15
Yes, more precise. But there are a few complicated issues. What if a customer tastes a milk and does not assign it a value? Is it because the customer has no opinion on it, or because it is bad? In other words, is a customer more likely to assign a value to a sheep if he likes it's milk? If the voting pattern is undefined, then you have to make some assumptions you think are accurate and incomporate those assumptions in your calculations. I can't help you more since I'm not sure I have the complete data set. –  Olivier Jan 8 '14 at 2:03
I do not care that customers will vote all the sheep. I want to elaborate only on the votes I had, without any presumption. Or rather, I want to calculate the value of the sheep only on the basis of these data cast. For me the customers are all equal in IQ. The only mathematical point (not logic) that I can not solve is how to give to the sheep a single total value proportional to the votes of the others sheeps (ex. first sheep: 100, second 30, third 5). –  ginolin Jan 8 '14 at 10:49
Maybe this can help.. I would start by giving each sheep a vote of 3. Then, for each sheep, sum all the values it received and divide that result by the number of values it received. You will then have an average value for each sheep. –  Olivier Jan 10 '14 at 3:10
