I'm trying Mathematica and finding it can't seem to solve very basic equations. I started with something REALLY basic:
Solve[y == 2 x, x]
and it correctly returned that x = y/2.
Then I tried it with a trapezoid area formula (calculating k, area), to get it to solve for one of the parallel edges (a - the smaller parallel edge):
Solve[k == ((a + b) / 2) * h, a]
It just returns two empty curly brackets. Am I entering it wrong? Surely this wouldn't be outside the capabilities of such a tool?
