# different spacing between values on axis

Someone gave me a chart, which I have to implement in to the application. When I started to analyse it I noticed, that it has got different spacing between values. For example spacing between 0 to 5 value is 8mm, but from 5 to 10 only 5mm, then from value 10 to 40 spacing is 3mm (the interval is 5) and from 40 to 160 it's 3mm. Does anybody know the mathematic name of this case? I was googling for 'non-linear chart scale' but it gave me nothing.

First ask the "someone" whether the strange spacings are supposed to be meaningful at all. Perhaps it's just sloppily drafted? Perhaps it ought to have been some approximation to a logarithmic x-axis (which it isn't, quite). –  Henning Makholm Dec 28 '12 at 10:31
no no, the chart I was mentioned is some kind chinese medical method so I suppose it have to be done like this. I thought it could be a logarithmic scale but it isn't. –  Krystian Dec 28 '12 at 10:47
Chinese doctors can be sloppy drafters too, can't they? –  Henning Makholm Dec 28 '12 at 11:23
In Mathematica, you might find the CustomTicks package useful. –  Eckhard Dec 28 '12 at 11:30
