Can any one kindly explain how this equation is derived. Has it something to with Bayesian network? Where this equation is normally used?

Are you aware of From the Wisdom of the Hive to Intelligent Routing in Telecommunication Networks: A Step towards Intelligent Network Management through Natural Engineering.

See Section 3.4.2 Goodness Of a neighbor.

That should get you started in the answers you are looking for.

@Amozti: Thanks for your response. I am pretty much aware of the link you have sent. It is the Equation 3.5 of the above link. The question was "How the equation is derived" and there not steps or hints mentioned in the document. –  Osman Khalid Dec 15 '12 at 17:35
