Im a computer scientist and I'm trying to understand the delta rule.

$$\Delta w_{ji}=\alpha(t_{j}-y_{j})\cdot g'(h_{j})\cdot x_{j}$$

I would be most grateful if someone could break down this equation. I have looked on multiple sites and there always seems to be a discrepancy or a variable who's calculation is not explained.

To Clarify this equation should calculate the the change in the weight of an input to the neurone by using the expected result and the actual result.

What are the different symbols here, that is what are $w_{ji},\alpha, (t_j-y_j), g'(h_j), h_j, x_j$? What is the context? – Aleks Vlasev Oct 21 '12 at 4:34
