I found that "that the relative configuration of N points in a D-dimensional space can be fully described using only $\left(\frac{n-d/2-1}{d+1}\right)$ distances". Set $n=3$ and $d=2$. Am I missing something? On other place I found that $n(d+1) -(d+1)(d+2)/2$ is sufficient. What is correct?
