As wikipedia points out, the eccentricity $\epsilon$ of an ellipse obeys the equation $$\epsilon=\sqrt{1-\left(\frac{b}{a}\right)^2}$$ where $a$ and $b$ are respectively the semi-major and semi-minor axes of the ellipse. |
