Are we to assume that y is a function of one variable alone? –  Chris Dugale May 5 '12 at 20:07

The text is not italicised by using $...$ but by using _..._ on the main site and in a TeX editor using \textit{}. Hope this helps. Regards, –  user21436 May 6 '12 at 6:46
