Also how do you restrict the domain to be integers in wolfram alpha?

No its not (and you probably can't).

In my experience, for any input longer than some 10-20 characters, wolfram alpha more or less gives up and just freely interprets a fraction of your input.

(Mathematica is a fine tool though, but the suitable methods are highly dependent on the problem at hand.)

I have never managed to get Alpha to accept Mathematica code. Here is an attempt to solve a simple differential equation with boundary conditions, with proper Mathematica syntax; DSolve[{EI w''''[x] == q*x/L, w[0] == 0,w'[0]==0, w''[L] == 0, EI w'''[L] == k w[L]},w,x], which completely stumps Alpha. –  Mikael Öhman Apr 11 '12 at 15:04
    
So, I say we are both off a bit. For example, your example is something like 90 characters, whereas your claim is you only need 10-20 to stump Mathematica. I was not real clear in what I said. I guess I meant I have had it work at times, not that it always works. I apologize. But, I did use it recently to answer a question on here... I did: factor the characteristic polynomial of [[0, 3], [1, 4]] This is around 55 characters and I just typed in exactly what I wanted to do and it understood it. It's not Mathematica code, but it is straightforward English, which is better. –  Graphth Apr 11 '12 at 15:13
    
This was a straight forward problem, and, additionally verbose, as I wrote it as actual Mathematica syntax to debunk your claim. I've had far shorter expressions fail and in those cases, writing in Mathematica syntax have not helped, such as the 30 character DSolve[{w'[x]==q,w[0]==0},w,x] still failing. The point is that Alpha doesn't accept any Mathematica code (if anything it helps to omit it). –  Mikael Öhman Apr 11 '12 at 16:02
